Take A Tour Of The New Football Stadium
Fans Will Be Closer To The Field
PITTSBURGH, Posted 7:54 p.m. EDT October 23, 2000 -- WTAE-TV's Ellen Gamble received a personal tour of the Steelers new stadium, which will open next season with 65,000 screaming fans in attendance.
Stadium project manager Heidi Edwards said that the new horseshoe-shaped home will bring fans closer to the action. Edwards said that at least in one end zone, the first row of seats is just 20 feet from the playing field. The sidelines will be just 50 feet from the first row of seats.
Bigger ramps will make it easier to get to the seats, as well. Edwards said that the ramps are about 10 feet wider than those at Three Rivers Stadium.
Fans also will get a great view of the point over a video scoreboard that is three times the size of the one at Three Rivers. And a 40,000-square foot Great Hall will house an interactive, memorabilia-filled shrine to the history of the Steelers.
The stadium construction is on schedule. The project is sticking to its budget of $230 million, as well.
