South Dakota

Badlands -- This cam gives viewers an idea of how beautiful, yet how useless, this natural wonder is. On my family trip there, the Badlands seemed to stretch on and on ... but it never got old. The cam is a little fuzzy, but a great shot. videobugvideobugvideobug (lb)

Black Hills -- Here's a cam with a view of the most famous carved rock, Mt. Rushmore. The image is a little dark and the wideshot makes the faces of these famed presidents difficult to see. Nevertheless, you can tell what it is. I've never been there before, so for me it's interesting to see the entrance to this tourist spot, where people are walking in. It really gives you a perspective of how large the sculpture is. Can you imagine being the person hanging up there, carving away? It's a live image, that updates every 60 seconds, but you have to reload your page to get the updated image. That, and the darkness of the shot bring this down to a videobugvideobug. (lr)

Farm Island -- Here's a huge countryside image downstream of the Oahe Dam. There are several other shots of the dam here, but this is definitely the most interesting, what with the residence in the foreground and the hills in the background. However, it's pretty blurry and a bit off-center. videobugvideobug (lb)

Mitchell -- Here's a cam of the world's only Corn Palace. Personally, I'd advise you to visit this only virtually. My family vacation to the Corn Palace and beyond when I was a kid was plagued with hot weather, snippy siblings and a broken-down station wagon -- right in front of the palace. But I digress. The cam is of a decent quality, but it's only up and running about one-third of the time, based on my experience, anyway. videobug + (lb)

Pierre -- Here's a shot at the state Capitol. It's a great location, but very shadowy in the afternoon, what with the sunset and all. Try to catch it in the morning. Behind the Capitol are the bluffs of the Missouri River, but you can't see them in the afternoon. videobugvideobugvideobugvideobug (lb)

Sioux Falls -- The cam points at the Big Sioux River Falls. It's a little blurry, but updates regularly and is a pretty neat cam. Would be great if it was streaming! videobugvideobug + (lr)

Sturgis -- This is our first picture of South Dakota to be up on the site! Actually, it's a collection of cams from the town of Sturgix. It's called the Sturgis Spycam, so-called I think because of the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally that takes place there. The viewer who sent me this link says it's cool to see the motorcycles passing through during the race in early August. It updates every 60 seconds, but there's not much to see unless the rally's in town. videobugvideobug + (lr)
